Cultural Genocide: UN Rapporteur Highlights China’s Impact on Tibetan Identity

Fernand de Varennes, UN Special Rapporteur, said China’s separation of Tibetan children from their parents into boarding schools aims to erase their identity, calling it a form of cultural genocide. He asserts that the separation of these children from their families is an effort to eradicate Tibetan culture and identity, labeling it as a form of cultural genocide.

By removing children from their cultural and familial environments, China aims to enforce assimilation and undermine Tibetan heritage, language, and religious practices, ultimately fostering loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party.
